Peggy Parish of Manning, South Carolina (July 14, 1927 -November 19, 1988), was the author of the children's story seriesAmelia Bedelia. The series was continued, after her sudden deathfrom an aneurysm, by her nephew Herman Parish. Peggy attended theUniversity of South Carolina and received a Bachelor of Arts degreein English.
Parish, an avid reader of many books, caused an internationalsensation with her famous series of young adult novellas, "AmeliaBedelia," gaining renown with her premiere work, "Amelia Bedelia."She became a household name by the time her final work, "AmeliaBedelia's Family Album", was published before her death. Hermanhonored Peggy's life in his book, Good Driving, Amelia Bedelia, bywriting in its dedication: "For Peggy Parish, the real Amelia."
